Given this situation, I am very grateful to TOKYO FILMeX for giving us the chance to become acquainted with unknown films. Every film entered in the competition was truly excellent, and the jury members were ultimately unable to come to an unanimous decision. Finally, I would like to ask Mr. Ichiyama, director of FILMeX, to please continue to develop the festival in years to come. * Grand Prize : Suzhou River Dir:Lou Ye Comments from Suzhou River Associate Producer Asai Takashi, on behalf of director Lou Ye : "The director has already left the festival, but he was very happy when I told him the results over the telephone. I think that the fact that the prize for the Grand Prize is stock film is a message for the director to keep making films. I am very pleased and honored." * Special Jury Prize : Djomeh Dir:Hassan Yektapanah Comments from Djomeh Director Hassan Yektapanah : I am very happy. Iranian film has been doing well, and I think that this is proof that we have been working hard to keep the wave started by those directors before us from dying down. But to be honest, I think it's about time for people to stop looking at our films as "Iranian films." I would like to join forces with people in Iran and abroad, and to start a wave of "new film" together with them. |
