Simon FIELD

Biography
Simon Field worked for many years as a freelance writer, lecturer on cinema and curator before becoming Director of Cinema at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts in 1988. From 1996 until 2004 he was Director of the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands. He is currently a director, along with Keith Griffiths, of the UK based production company Illuminations Films. Illuminations Films were executive producers of the New Crowned Hope film series, which included films by Bahman Ghobadi, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Garin Nugroho, Tsai Ming-Liang and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. They are the producers, with Kick the Machine Films, of Apichatpong's multi-platform "Primitive" project, combining a major installation, two short films and the feature "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" which this year won the Palme d'Or in Cannes. He is also a consultant to the Dubai International Film Festival.

The Tokyo Culture Creation Project is a project that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture have been executing in collaboration with various arts-related organizations. The Project's objectives are to create and promote arts and culture that are unique to Tokyo, to develop children's rich sensibilities through arts and culture, and to create various local cultural focal points in Tokyo. The Project's activities include organization of various art events; facilitation of collaborative art programs between residents of Tokyo and artists; and operation of programs to provide children with the opportunity to experience arts and culture.
