[Introduction]
An adaptation of a novel by "The Ballad of Narayama" author FUKAZAWA Shichiro. Set in the Warring States period, it depicts the fates of several generations of a poor farming family living near the Fuefuki River in Kai Province, ruled by the Takeda clan. Unusually for a period film, peasants living in poverty are the focal point of its vast temporal setting.
