This year's Special Program features Iranian Cinema before the Islamic Revolution, much of which has seldom been screened anywhere in the world. “The House is Black" may be screened with English subtitles. Please note that all the other films in this section will be screened with only Japanese subtitles.
Recently, Iranian films have attracted international attention, but it was during the first half of 1970s that Iranian cinema enjoyed its the first Golden Age. However, after the Islamic Revolution, the new government imposed strict censorship on the cinema. Seven films from the period will be showcased, giving audiences the rich, hidden resources of today's Iranian cinema.
