The dawn as well as the golden age of Swiss cinema was marked by filmmakers from Russia and other European countries that exercised their talents in Switzerland, while the nation's political climate was shaped by its multilingual identity and permanent neutrality. Following in the unexplored footsteps of such world-renowned film masters as Jacques FEYDER, Sergei M. EISENSTEIN and Douglas SIRK, we have programmed their Swiss works, which may serve as a "missing link" in cinema history.
With our deepest appreciation to the Embassy of Switzerland in Japan, SWISS FILMS, Pro Helvetia - Arts Council of Switzerland, and National Film Center, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, we will showcase six films. |
