Karen lives with her husband Markus and their children at her childhood home in rural Switzerland. To celebrate Markus’ birthday, Karen invites her sister Jule’s family for a gathering. This somewhat idyllic home reminds the sisters of mixed emotions towards their father who took his own life and their deceased mother. In a house filled with childhood memories, the sisters grow increasingly tense as their long-held resentments - dark memories of their late mother and family traumas - begin to resurface.

The Girl and the Spider

Lisa is moving out of the apartment she shared with Mara. Through packing, the two reflect on their shifting relationship. Lisa’s mother Astrid arrives to help, followed by various characters including new neighbors and pets. In the evening, they host a modest farewell party, where the guests’ complex emotions and desires are revealed. Eye contacts, conversations, small incidents overlap, vividly portraying the characters’ complicated relationships and inner sentiments. World premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival’s Encounters program, winning the Best Director Award (along with Denis Côté “Social Hygiene” (2021)).
