[Introduction]
A father on the verge of death takes his young son to the most beautiful place on Earth, so that he may be there to witness the moment when he takes his last breath... "Light in the Yellow Breathing Space", the latest from Vimukthi JAYASUNDARA whose 2009 film "Between Two Worlds" screened at that year's TOKYO FILMeX, might best be described as a homage to his father Reginold, a science teacher who was also engaged in research to develop his own theory of reincarnation. In this film, a succession of surrealistic images nullify the borders lying between reality and imagination, animals and humans, the temporal world and the afterlife, and more, overpowering the viewer. It is arguably an irregular masterpiece that encapsulates the worlds depicted by JAYASUNDARA in his features to date, and takes them to even further extremes.
