Director: Linda HOAGLUND
[Introduction]
"Things Left Behind" is a film about the transformative power of the first major international art exhibit hiroshima: strings of time" devoted to Hiroshima. The protagonists are the 48 photographs. They are the keys to liberate Hiroshima from the monochromic past and bring it into the vivid present. Through the film, the camera repeatedly returns to the photographs Ñ individually and grouped, exhibited in the museum and not, in slow motion tracking shots, and in close-ups that reveal Ñ along with their subjects' fine stitching and intricate patterns Ñ bloodstains and scorches. The intent is to transport viewers into the subjective experience of encountering the photographs, which fuse the beauty of the garments, still radiant and stylish, with the haunting absence of those who wore them. This experience elicits a full range of narratives and memories unique to each individual.
