Director:SOMAI Shinji
Born January 13, 1948, in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. After leaving college without graduating, he joined Nikkatsu as an assistant director. In 1980, he made his directorial debut as a film director, “Tonda Couple." The following year, he directed "The Sailor Suit and the Machine Gun," which saw box office success as the year's highest-grossing Japanese film. He has directed a series of masterpieces in his unique long-take style, actively employing unknown actors and children who appear on film for the first time. His films include “P.P. Rider" (1983), “The Catch" (1983), "Typhoon Club" (1985), "Luminous Woman" (1987), "The Friends" (1994), “Wait and See" (1998), and “Kaza-hana" (2000).
