The jury members

LOU Ye( China / Film Director )

Lou Ye was born in Shanghai in 1965. He studied animation at the Shanghai School of Fine Arts and then filmmaking at the Beijing Film Academy.

His debut film, WEEKEND LOVER (1994), was banned for two years in China. He attracted international acclaim with his second feature SUZHOU RIVER (2000), which won the Tiger Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. It too was banned in China. The film, now considered a classic of modern Chinese cinema, was restored in 4K in 2021, under the supervision of Lou Ye himself, working from the original 16mm A-B negative.

His next three films: PURPLE BUTTERFLY (2003), SUMMER PALACE (2006), and SPRING FEVER (2009) were all selected in Competition at Cannes. His Paris-set film LOVE AND BRUISES (2011) premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. Ye returned to Cannes with MYSTERY (2012), which was selected for Un Certain Regard. BLIND MASSAGE (2014) premiered in Competition in Berlin and won the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution. THE SHADOW PLAY (2018) premiered at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. SATURDAY FICTION (2019) was selected in Competition at Venice.

La Frances HUI( USA / Curator )

Frances Hui is Curator of Film at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. She has organized and co-organized retrospectives of film directors including Lee Chang-dong, Andrey Zvyagintsev, Federico Fellini, Tomu Uchida, Tsai Ming-Liang, Johnnie To, Pedro Almodóvar, as well as surveys of Iranian, Indian, Philippine, and Latin American cinemas. She joined the selection committee of New Directors/New Films in 2016 and has led the festival as its co-chair since 2020. Hui has served on award juries for Sundance Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, FIRST International Film Festival, Udine Far East Film Festival, and Hong Kong International Film Festival.

Catherine DUSSART( France / Film Producer )

After she graduated from a school of management, Catherine Dussart began her career as a press officer but soon turned into a Producer. She started producing short films and naturally graduated to feature films & documentary productions both for television and cinema. She established Les Productions Dussart in 1992 and CDP in 1994. Since she has produced almost 100 films in more than 15 countries.

Her last productions include Meeting with Pol Pot by Rithy Panh Cannes Premières 2024, Shambala by Min Bahadur Bham Berlinale Competition 2024, both of them are the official entries of their countries to the Academy awards, Shikun by Amos Gitaï Berlinale 2024.

Student Jury Prize

Three student jurors will evaluate the 10 films in the competition, and the “Student Jury Prize” winning film will be announced at the award ceremony on Sunday, November 30. The selection of the student jurors and the administration of the prize will be undertaken by the Tokyo Student Film Festival.

Audience Award

The award-winning film is chosen from all of the sections after the vote of the audience. (excluding the Closing film and films screened after 30th November)
