The Jury of the TOKYO FILMeX 2014 competition, consisted of Jia Zhang-ke (The Chairperson of the Jury: China / Film Director) , YANAGIJIMA Katsumi (Japan, Cinematographer), Richard LORMAND (USA / Film Publicist, Film Press Plus) , NAKAMURA Yukiko (Japan, Bunkamura Museum Le Cinema Programming Producer) and CHANG Yann (Taiwan, Film Critic) , awards the following prizes.

"Crocodile"
Francis Xavier PASION (The Philippines / 2014 / 88min. )

With its sincere humanity, CROCODILE invites us into a timeless universe where we explore the lives of these heartwarming people. The director's instinctive observational skills offer us a spiritual journey, making us realize that there are still unique worlds to explore. The film's strength lies in its honest and cohesive directorial style and the vivid expressiveness of its cast.

"Next to Her"
Asaf KORMAN (Israel / 2014 / 90 min. )

For a first feature, the director shows masterful control in this powerful and moving film. Great skill is demonstrated to consistently use the appropriate distance to show us this fascinating relationship between two loving sisters.

Special Mention

"Shadow Days"
ZHAO Dayong (China / 2014 / 95 min.)

The jury members were deeply impressed by the director's commitment to depict the inseparable relationship between film and society.

Audience Award

"The President"
Mohsen MAKHMALBAF (Georgia, France, UK, Germany / 2014 / 119min.)

Student Jury Prize

"Next to Her"
Asaf KORMAN (Israel / 2014 / 90 min. )

The loving distance between devoted siblings is depicted to an almost stifling degree with intense closeups and long shots that push us away, brilliantly bringing their precious relationship to light. Images capturing their nuanced non-verbal exchanges confront the viewer directly, and at no moment do we doubt the authenticity of the world they present. We are even instilled with a desire.
