Don't Expect Too Much
USA / 2011 / 70 min.
Dir. Susan RAY
[Introduction]
The wife of Nicholas RAY, Susan RAY, was deeply involved with Nicholas RAY's projects in the final years of his life including "We Can't Go Home Again." She directed this film to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Nicholas RAY's birth. This documentary freely makes use of unreleased behind-the-scenes footage and testimony by the cast and staff at the time to uncover the various enigmas that cloak the specifics regarding the production of "We Can't Go Home Again" as well as to impart the nature of Nicholas RAY who left a large body of masterpieces as a Hollywood maverick. Interviews with Jim JARMUSCH, Victor ERICE, among other film auteurs who hold Nicholas RAY in high regard are invaluable. The title, "Don't Expect Too Much" is a remark uttered by Nicholas RAY in a conversation with Tom FARRELL during "We Can't Go Home Again" and was one tentative title in the initial stages of that film's production.
